Celebration at a School

The food here is great. I just love it. I am actually not a fan of the desserts here so far (except the things that taste like doughnuts) but I am not complaining. I will be kept super healthy as a result! All of the other food I have tried so far is fantastic. And we get to eat with our hands :) The first time I ate, I accidentally started eating with my left hand, but don’t worry, I quickly switched. No harm done.
Our whole group of students was on the way to the beach or something (I don’t remember actually where we were going, we never ended up getting there) when we walked by a school that was about to do some traditional things to celebrate Pongal, which is a major celebration here in India. The celebration actually takes place on the 14th,15th, and 16th of January, but the kids at the school were celebrating it early so that they could celebrate while school was still going.

The children dressed up and were performing rituals and such. It was so cool to watch. We got to talk to some of the kids and teachers, and they all wanted to take pictures with us. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it. The children are beautiful and I love watching them interact.

If you have seen Slumdog Millionaire (I watched the edited version, don't judge me) you might recognize the picture on the left above. On the right is an explanation of the first day of the festival, called Bhogi. Below is the fire they made for that.

The kids are soooo cute!

So here is a picture of the super cool crows that look way different than our crows. Look at its head! I just think it is awesome. They are called house crows (I know this courtesy of the India bird book Robert gave me for Christmas. Thanks Robert :) )

We got our internet sticks today. I got one of the ones that the students had last year, and so I only had to pay half price for it. So now I will be able to use the internet! We pay for the amount of time we use on the internet also, of course, but I am not planning on spending too much time on it. I can type all of my blogs on my computer first (which I am doing now) and then paste them in the blog later. It is great!
No rats yet :) Well, except I did see one outside by someone else’s house. A little boy was watching it. He was quite fascinated.

The weather here = perfection. The temperature is just right, and the sunshine is great.
